Program Air Date – 5-20-12

“In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth!” Good morning! Thanks for choosing to be with us today for the Living Word program. We are excited to have you with us for this time of offering and encouragement, as we participate in the things of God. We are glad that you have joined us for this worship to our Savior.

Our commitment this morning is to give glory to the Creator through the singing of songs of praise and through the study of His Word. I hope and pray that each of us will do our part to make this service acceptable in His sight. Now will you bow with me in prayer.

This morning we want to begin our songs of praise by singing a song which reminds us that God knows all things. Furthermore, if we remain faithful someday we will understand as well. So, at this time, won’t you join in with the congregation as we sing together, “Farther Along?”

(SONG # 1)

Isn’t it wonderful to serve such a magnificent God? I think we sometimes forget just how wondrous our God is! He has done so much for us and given us so much in this life. However, if we go to the writers of the Bible we find that these followers of God understood and proclaimed exactly who God is.

For example consider some of David’s thoughts which are found in Psalm 18:49-19:1. There he said, “Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name…The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament show his handiwork.” David acknowledges God as the giver and creator of all, just as we read in the first few chapters of the book of Genesis.

Notice also what Isaiah said in Isaiah 64:8, “But now, O LORD, You are our Father; We are the clay, and You our potter; And all we are the work of Your hand.” This great prophet of God here acknowledges that our God is the very giver of life. He is the maker and the molder of all that we are or all that we become. Again, I am sure that Isaiah had Genesis in mind, as we read that God created man and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.

Even Paul and Peter in their books continually referred to the mighty power or hand of God! Again confirming to all who read that the God they served was worthy of all homage and devotion. Everyone who heard them, saw them or met them could truly see their belief and confidence in the God which they served. But we must ask, is this also what people see in us as servants of the one and only God of the universe.

Until we all come to a clearer understanding about this great and mighty God we serve - we will never be motivated to be everything He asks us to. The question is, have you acknowledged the awesome God we serve through an obedience to His Will? If not, Why not? Won’t you choose to follow His Will and to do what He says today?

Today we are happy to have a guest speaker with us, brother Jerry Sullins. As most of your already know, Brother Jerry is the Director of the Bible Institute of Missouri. We are glad to have him with us today and look forward to him guiding our thoughts at the appropriate time.

As far as our topic of the day we will be continuing to consider the statement, “But Without Faith It Is Impossible To Please Him.” Our specific lesson of the day is entitled, “We understand God Framed The Worlds.” So, please continue with us this morning, and after our next song together brother Sullins will be returning with this study from God’s Word. The name of our next hymn is, “Footprints Of Jesus!”

I’d like to welcome you again to “The Living Word” broadcasts. We are so thankful you have chosen to view this program this morning and to be a part of our Bible study as well as our worship service. We’re so thankful, and it is our good pleasure, to have you in our audience. You may have questions from time to time and of course Ray after the lesson today will give you an address or email address where you can write, or email us to get in touch with us, or even phone us and we will be more than happy to answer any Biblical questions that you have that is if the Bible gives the answer. If not, we will just tell you that we don’t believe the Bible gives the answer. Certainly, it is our pleasure to be in your living room this morning or your den, wherever you may be watching this program, to consider things that relate to our soul salvation. Basically, everything we discuss on this program from whatever theme we may be having that is found in the Word of God, it all pertains to our soul salvation. So, it is our great privilege to have an opportunity here today to share with you and to study with you God’s Holy Word.

Our subject of discussion this morning centers around the subject of faith. I know Ray has discussed already faith last week but I’d like to discuss it just a little bit more before we get into a specific part of that faith, that we certainly need to discuss, which is found in Hebrews 11:3. Faith is something that people are very confused about as many might know. The word as we use it in our culture today is really not the word as it is expressed, as it is meant, or as the definition is in the Bible itself. For when we speak of faith many people believe, well, it’s that element that someone has that causes them to go to the edge of a cliff and to jump off the cliff and then God will save them because of their faith. Well, I’m afraid friend that that’s not what the Bible speaks of when it speaks of faith. So, what we want to do throughout this series is to show you what real faith is.

Now as was stated in Hebrews 11:1, where it gives a definition of faith, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” This is a description of faith. It’s the evidence of things not seen and yes, we walk by faith and not by sight, but our faith is based upon evidence. So, we don’t have a concept in the Bible that is taught that many people believe in, “Let’s make that blind leap of faith”. Faith brings us to a certain point, or at least knowledge brings us to a certain point, then faith must take over. We can believe to a certain degree as some people say, and maybe ninety-nine percent, that there was a God in Heaven and that, that God in heaven created all things but it takes that element of faith to really cause us to really believe that God exists and that God made all things. That’s not the type of faith that we read about in the Bible, faith is that which is based upon evidence. There is no doubt or uncertainty when one speaks of a Biblical faith because it is based upon facts which we find, basically, in God’s Word.

Now, no one can have the faith of the Bible unless they believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God. It was Paul who said to Timothy in 2Timothy 3:16-17, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” Now, you know according to Peter he said that, “God has given us all things that pertain unto life and Godliness”. Yes that’s true. So, our faith is based upon knowledge. We know that we know that we know because we believe that this Book of Books that we refer to and call the Bible is the inerrant, inspired, all sufficient word of God. We believe that every word of it is inspired. There is a term in hermeneutics, that is the science of interpretation which is called verbal plenary, we believe that every word in the Bible is inspired and every word is like inspired. Verses the people who believe that, well, this one is not inspired, and these words are not inspired, and these words are inspired which means God breathed. Well, indeed not all words in the Bible are God’s revelation but they are of God’s inspiration. God told the Holy men of God as they spoke and were moved by the Holy Spirit, and all those who penned the words that we find in this Book of Books, what they should say and reveal those things that they should say through the Holy Spirit of God. This message was brought to us and is inerrant, there are no errors, in this Book of Books. That is why it is God’s word. So, whatever we believed is based upon what we see in the Bible and what we see and read in the Bible to be God’s truth.

Now let me say this, that faith does not mean an absence of knowledge but contrary just the opposite is true. Do you remember what Paul said to the brethren at Rome in Romans 10:17, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Now no doubt there are people who have doubt and they say that they doubt, to such a degree, that it takes faith to cause them to be believers. That is not what the Bible says and that’s not what the Bible teaches. We can, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that there is a God in Heaven. We can believe, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the stories that were told in the Old Testament were literal stories. We can believe, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the miracles that Jesus performed were actual miracles. We can believe what the Bible says to be true and we must believe what the Bible says to be true if we sincerely believe that it is God’s inspired inerrant, infallible, all sufficient word of God.

So, this morning we need to look at some of the attributes of God as we consider the subject of these moments that we have together today. We are going to be discussing what is found in Hebrews 11:3 where it says, “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of the things which are visible.” We understand that this world was framed by the word of God. Oh, I tell you there is so much doubt and misunderstanding about the creation. Just this last week I heard that my grandchildren were being taught by someone in their school who didn’t really believe in the creation theory. They call it a theory but we call it creationism, that there is a God in Heaven and that God is responsible for the creation of all things. We who believe in the Bible do not believe that it happened through a series or process that people referred to as evolution. Evolution was actually brought into existence by those who believe that there is no God. But yet some Christian people, so called “Christian people”, believe that this doctrine can be applied in the scripture and that God over a series of billions of years created all things that we see and that we know exist on the face of this Earth. Well, first of all it is mathematically impossible for that to have occurred and it certainly does not reveal to us, does not stand, and cannot be supported by what is said in the scripture. In the scripture we cannot see the plan of evolution, even in any sense, implied that the creation of all things took place by a series of natural selection or any other doctrine or theory that man has proposed. Rather we see Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Then for six days, six literal days, according to the Hebrew language he actually created all things that we see in existence on this Earth today. He set in process life itself and as life reproduced and as life reproduced then we came into being because of the plan of God in what we refer to as creation. What is stated in Hebrews 11:3, “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God…” There should be no doubt in our minds as to how this world was created. If we believe that the Bible is inspired of God. If we believe or have faith that the Bible is the all sufficient, inerrant Word of God and we believe that to be true then there should be no doubt in our mind whatsoever as to what the Bible says about creation. I call your attention to 2Peter 3:5, where Peter says, “For this they willfully forget: that by the Word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water.”

So how was this world created? By the Word of God, he spoke and all the things that we know in this Earth that were created were created. I call your attention also to the Psalmist, in Psalm 33:6-9. Now, this was written over a thousand years before Christ and was written concerning the creation of the world. Psalm 33:6-9, “By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, And all the hosts of them by the breath of His mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap: He lays up the deep in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.” Now, if we believe that God is God and we understand and know that he is omnipotent what is the problem with our believing that he created the world and everything that is in the world through Jesus Christ, as the Bible says, as it states in the Bible? Why should we want to seek the advice of some man through some type of theory or hypothesis and actually the theory of evolution is not a theory yet it is still a hypothesis? Why should we believe what some man has said who says that the world was created in such a way, that it was? When we know how the world was created and when we look into the pages of God’s word we know that it was created by the Word of God.

I call your attention back to the book of Hebrews, where our study was started this morning, and that is in Hebrews 11:3, “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which were seen were not made of things which are visible.” In the book of Romans 1:20 it states clearly, that even the people who did not necessarily acknowledge God as they should acknowledge him, the very creation of the world and the things around them told them of the God of Heaven. They understood as all tribes do, in every tribe wherever you go throughout this world, they believe in a supreme being. Now, they may not call him by the same name but they believe in a supreme being. They believe in some force that has brought them into existence and we know what that force is because we have the Word of God. When we study the true account of creation in Genesis 1, we find God said nine different times; it was through the Word of God his powerful word that he brought all things into existence.

How omnipotent he is. He is above all things. He created all things through Jesus Christ our Lord. His power not only extended through the things that he created on this Earth but his power gave us the revelation that we’re talking about and have been talking about this morning that causes us to know and understand that he truly is God and that he has revealed unto us how he created all things in this world. It was through that revelation that we have in the Word of God that we know that he has given us even this day, “…all things that pertain unto life and Godliness.”, which is found in 2Peter 1:3. My friend the question is this morning, do you believe in the power of God to provide for you salvation for your soul? We hope and pray that you will make that decision to have a proper faith in Jesus Christ that he is indeed the Son of God. To confess his name before men as Jesus said in Matthew 10:32. To repent or turn away from your sins as Jesus emphasized in Luke 13:3. Then to make sure that you are Baptized into Christ for the remission of your sins. In this way you will honor God. You will show to God that is the Father in Heaven that you respect Him, that you stand in awe of Him, and that you desire to do His will. It is through this that you my friend will have an opportunity for your soul’s salvation. So, we profess to you this morning the greatness of our God. The way that He has created us and not left us here just aimless and without knowledge of what we must do as we reference His will. I plead with you this morning to understand who God is and what His will is and obey it.
