Program Air Date – 9-23-12

“Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,”?says the Lord. Thank you for joining us this morning for the Living Word Program. It is always a privilege to have you with us for this time of offering to God. We welcome you to this service for our Creator.

As most of you know this morning we will have the privilege of glorifying our Lord through songs of praise and through the study of His perfect Word. So may we each do our part to make this time together acceptable in His sight. Now, let’s approach our Father’s throne in prayer.

It’s now time to join in our first song of the day. So won’t you lift your voices to God with the congregation, as we sing together, “Sing To Me Of Heaven!”

(SONG # 1)

When was the last time someone did something that upset you? Was it today, yesterday, last week, or last month? The fact is we get mad at people almost every day for things which they do against us. What was it that he or she did to make you mad? Did they say something about you or were they talking with others about you. Maybe they said something to you that you didn’t like.

Sometimes we get mad at others for things they do when they don’t even realize that they have done something to upset us. Were they teasing or joking with us or were they really talking about us to hurt us?

Let’s first be careful about judging the motives of those around us. In John 7:24, Jesus said, “Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.” We must look beyond the face value of a person or situation and make sure we are making a proper judgement! But what do we usually do, we make a quick judgement without taking time to think it through. We make ourselves judge, jury and prosecutor within a matter of seconds. What type of judgement is this, righteous or unrighteous, wise or unwise?

The facts are, all of us like to jump to conclusions on these matters and we generally choose to get mad and get even now and worry about the consequences later. During these situations, isn’t our first reaction an “eye for an eye” or a “tooth for a tooth.” We seem determined to “get even,” by any cost or by any means. However, is this really what God wants? Look at what Jesus taught in Luke 6:29. There He said, “To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either.” Jesus said we need to learn to be better than those around us. Return good for evil as Christ would have us to.

Another thing to keep in mind, concerning getting even, is that God will take care of the vengeance. Just as we read earlier, ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord.” Romans 12:19. Therefore, We must act as Christ would act, overlooking evil in order to do good. Thus, letting our enemies know that we are like Christ and not like them.

God will truly care for us if we will obey according to His will. How much easier it is for us not to have to worry about punishing others or getting even with them, because God has promised to take care of that for us. Who will you choose to be like God or your enemy?

Our topic of study today will again focus on our series called “Teaching As Doctrine The Commandments Of Men!” Our specific study this morning deals with man’s doctrine concerning “The Second Coming Of Christ!” So stay with us and in a few minutes we will return and be led in this discussion of the Day. As far as our speaker of the morning, we are happy to again have brother Jerry Sullins with us. Brother Jerry is the Director of the Bible Institute of Missouri. We thank him for being with us and we look forward to him guiding our thoughts after our next song. So now let’s join in our second hymn of the morning, the name of the song, “Softly And Tenderly.”

(SONG # 2)

By Jerry Sullins

Welcome again to the Living Word broadcast and we are so happy that you have chosen this opportunity to be us this morning on the television broadcast. We hope and pray that the things that are said here today will greatly encourage you to honor God’s word and help us all to seek to do his will even more throughout our lives. Jesus made an important statement which is a theme of the lessons we have had in the few weeks before and we will follow for several weeks to come. He made a statement in Matthew 15:9, “‘And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’” Unfortunately this is so true; there are many people today who claim to be following Christ who actually are following their own commands according to how they desire to view the Bible. It is in the best interest of all of us that we look into the pages of God’s word and truly discern what His truth is as Jesus said John 8:32, “‘And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.’” Jesus promised us all that it is possible for us to know the truth in fact it’s possible for us to know as much truth as Jesus wants us to know and we are going to seek to know what his will is for us.

The subject of this hour has to do with the end of time. As you well know there are many different concepts concerning what’s going to happen when our Lord and Savior Jesus comes again. It is referred to as the “second coming”. There are many doctrines that come from the minds of men and from the doctrines of men that have to relate to millennialism. So in the few moments that we have this morning I am going to try to do my best to bring a capsule version of what the Bible actually teaches concerning the end of time. I might ask you if you desire so that you will write at the addresses that are going to be given you or email us for further material on Millennialism. I think that you will enjoy the study that we can send you and enjoy the material that we send you in bringing you to a further understanding to the end of time.

Well, certainly the Bible is very clear as to what is going to happen at the end of time. But it is going to happen as Paul said in 1Corinthians 15:52, “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet…” Jesus is going to come again. “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye…” It was Paul who said to the brethren at Thessalonica in 1 Thessalonians 5:2 that Jesus will come “As a thief in the night.” We do not know the hour when Jesus is going to come again but we do know that he is coming again. He will appear the second time as the Hebrew writer said in Hebrews 9, that there is a time that is appointed unto man to die and then after that the judgment. Peter said in 2Peter 3:10, that when Jesus comes again and he separates the sheep from the goats, and Peter didn’t say this Jesus actually said that, but Peter added to it when he said what is going to happen when Jesus comes again at that great judgment seat. And when the judgment is over the Bible says the Earth and the works that are therein shall be burned up with a fervent heat they will melt, and all the earth will be dissolved and will go away. There will be no place for a kingdom to actually be in existence because the earth will be destroyed after Jesus second coming. In John 5 and 6 the statement is made that all that are in the grave shall hear his voice and shall come forth. They will come forth some to resurrection of life and then others to a resurrection of condemnation. It is evident that in these events there is no room for what is commonly called rapture and we are going to discuss that for a few moments this morning; a period of tribulation and a thousand year reign. We will see the kingdom of God in this study today is something that was present at the beginning of Pentecost in Acts 2 where actually the kingdom came into existence. It was present during the time of the Apostles, it is present today and this kingdom will be ushered into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Well, what about the thousand years reign? The Bible certainly speaks of it in Revelation 20:4, but we see as we investigate all of the 27 books of the New Testament it would not hold up such a doctrine that is taught concerning this figurative language of a thousand year reign. As we might know the Lord is said by those who believe in a literal thousand year reign they believe that the Lord will sit on David’s throne for a thousand years in the city of Jerusalem. Now it only takes a casual reading of the Bible to understand that this is not what it is talking about, that that’s not what the Bible says. That is not what the Bible affirms there are many Biblical proofs that the thousand year reign is not valid. In fact if you read, if fact write this scripture down, Jeremiah 22:28-30 we see that mentioned in the lineage of Jesus Christ, in Matthew 1 and Luke 3, that there is a certain King called Coniah who is also referred to as Jechoniah. The prophecy is made in Jeremiah 22:28-30, that no king after him because of his transgressions would ever sit on the throne of David in the city of Jerusalem and reign. Now Jesus happened to be a King, He was a prophet and He was a priest, and he never did sit on David’s throne in the city of Jerusalem for a literal reign. That scripture alone would destroy what many people believe concerning the thousand year reign. Christ is already sitting on David’s throne investigate if you will Acts 2:30. In fact in 1Thessalonians 4:13-17 the Bible clearly states that when Jesus comes again He is not even coming to the Earth He will appear in the clouds and those of us will meet the Lord in the air and so shall we ever be with the Lord, there is no indication in the scriptures that Jesus will sit in the literal throne in the city of Jerusalem. It was impossible for Him to do that because the Bible prophecies that no king of Jechoniah’s lineage would ever sit on a literal throne in the city of David as king.

What about the rapture? Well, all of us have heard the statement and most everyone who makes the statement possibly believes that it is true. But I call to your consideration what the Bible actually says, that bumper sticker is this, “In case of rapture this car will no longer have a driver.” So many people believe in this, what is the rapture? According to their definition it is the sudden and possible secret coming of Christ in the air to catch away from the earth resurrected bodies of those who have died in the faith and with them the living saints. It takes about seven years for this to be accomplished according to most millennialists. But what does the Bible say? The Bible says in Revelation 1:7 that every eye will see the Lord when he comes. Now if every eye will see the Lord when he comes how can he secretly come and rapture up His own children? That is a serious thing to consider. 1Thessaloinians 4:16 says and affirms that there will be plenty of noise, the trumpet shall sound and the dead in Christ shall rise forth or come forth. It will be a scene where everyone on the face of this earth will know the Lord has come in the clouds. There is no doubt about this teaching. The Lord even talked two parables in Matthew 13 about the tears in the fish net that teaches that there is no separation of good and evil until the end of the world. But what the millennialists say who believe in the rapture is that all of the faithful will be raised up to go and meet the Lord in the air and then just the unfaithful will be left upon this earth for what we refer to as a second chance. Now John, in the gospel according to John, John 6, the Lord mentions three times this very same truth. The truth that there is no separation of good and evil until the end of the world. We see that the gospel is going to be preached until Jesus comes again. The simple great commission in Matthew 28:19-20, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always even to the end of the ages…” even to the end of the world which means this age. Jesus will be with us in a spiritual way because His kingdom is a spiritual kingdom. Are we going to be like the Jews and think that Jesus is going to establish a literal kingdom well event the Samaritans understood that that wasn’t going to happen and believed that Christ was the Messiah when he was teaching them in John 4. Read that if you will, a simple understanding of the scripture will bring you to these truths.

Well what will actually happen when Jesus comes again? Well one thing for sure a man was telling me the other day and he said, “Well do you know what’s going to happen in December?” And I didn’t know what he was talking about. He said, “Well in December the end of the world is suppose to come, someone has prophesied that.” And I said well one thing for sure if someone has prophesied that, that is if a man has prophesied that, it is not going to come on that day, I think its December the 12 or something like that. Well many people have claimed that the Lord is going to come again and people have sold their possessions and they have done so many things to prepare that coming and supposed coming after coming those days have come and passed but Jesus has not come and did not come to this earth. We have not experienced His second coming since He left this earth the first time. Well, the Bible clearly states in Matthew 24:36 that the day that Jesus comes is only known by God himself, God the Father. No man knows the day that Jesus will come again as the scripture says saith the Father but the Father and only those who live and die in Christ will be prepared and able to stand.

My friends have you considered what the Bible actually says concerning the second coming of Christ, his coming back, the thousand year reign. The Bible tells us clearly in Hebrews 8:4 it tells us that if He were on earth he could not be our high priest so how could He come to this earth and be our high priest as some milenialists claim when the scripture says that He cannot do that. We don’t learn that He is a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek in His spiritual kingdom, Hebrews 5:7. In Genesis 14 it predicts the duel role of Jesus being the high priest and king and this is restated by Zechariah in Zechariah 6:13. We approach the Father through our high priest Jesus in the spiritual kingdom. Well according to 1Corinthians 15:23-25, it clearly teaches that Jesus is not reigning over his kingdom sitting at the right hand of God. He will not come back to this earth at all as we have already stated 1Thessalonians 4:13-18. There will be no earth for which he can reign on because as Peter said in 2Peter 3, as we have already stated, that the earth and the works that are there in shall be burned up with a fervent heat and they will melt, they will no longer be in existence. There will be no unrighteous ones to reign over, that is there will be no righteous people to reign over because all of the righteous as they claim will be going to heaven. So how can the unrighteous be on this earth trying to lead people to Christ or what is so called the second chance, there will be no earthly empower, according to John 18:36.

We know for sure, and we are confident, and the Bible clearly states this and can be easily read to come to this truth that the kingdom of God has already been established and Jesus is sitting on the throne now in that heavenly kingdom. According to Mark 9:1 Jesus said to His disciples, “….there are some standing here who will not taste death till they see the kingdom of God present with power.” And in Acts 1 and 2 that kingdom came with power from on high and those people who are baptized in that day in Acts 2 about 3,000 souls were added to the Church which is the kingdom Colossians 1:18.

So, I ask you this question, what kind of day will it be when Jesus comes again? What kind of day will it be for you? Will it be a day of gladness or will it be a day of sadness or will it be a day of separation? It is your choice! Some people want to take the chance that they will have a second chance that Jesus will come to this earth and reign and they’ll have another opportunity to obey His will. Well, even if that were true would you want to take that chance that it would not be true? Well, and to you who are troubled, in 2Thessalonians 1:7-9, “and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angles, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.” One thing for sure about the second coming I know that Jesus is coming again if the Bible is true and I believe it with all of my heart, and most of you believe that the Bible is God’s inspired, inhered, all sufficient word, you believe that. If the Bible is true, which we believe is true, we cannot get past the in-referable truth, the undeniable truth that Jesus is coming again. That He will not establish a kingdom on this earth but He is reigning now in heaven and when He comes again He will receive those faithful unto Him and they shall go and ever be with the Lord in the air. But the unfaithful will be cast into utter darkness where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth. It is your choice. We are praying that you will understand the Bible on all of these subjects that we are talking about through these weeks and understand what God’s will is for you in everyone of these matters. May God bless you.
